Solutions to Common Problems and Scenarios
Wallpaper Delamination
Excessive Moisture and Humidity:
- Condos can experience elevated humidity, especially in units with poor ventilation or plumbing issues.
- Moisture is the #1 cause of wallpaper delaminating—bathrooms, kitchens, or exterior walls are especially prone.
Mold and Bacteria
Inadequate Ventilation:
- Bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry areas may lack proper exhaust fans or window ventilation.
- Some condos rely on shared HVAC systems that don’t effectively remove humidity.
Condensation:
- Poor insulation or thermal bridging (especially around windows or exterior walls) can cause dampness,, leading to mould.
Floods or Water Damage:
- Water damage from upstairs units, common areas, or burst pipes may not be fully dried, leading to hidden mould.
Trapped Moisture
Cupping:
- Boards curl up at the edges and sink in the middle.
Crowning:
- Opposite of cupping—boards rise in the center and edges dip.

Slippery Floors
Condensation:
- Moisture in the air can condense on cool surfaces like tile, laminate, hardwood, or vinyl—creating an invisible slick layer.
Mildew or Algae:
- Entryways, balconies, or in damp basements, moisture can cause organic growth that creates slippery surfaces.
- If rugs trap moisture underneath, it can seep out and create slick patches when stepped on or moved.
Carpet Stains
Wicking:
- When moisture soaks deep into the carpet, it can pull dirt and residue from the padding or backing up to the surface as it dries.
Mildew and Mold Staining:
- Excess moisture can encourage mould, which can discolour carpet and create dark or yellowish stains.
Compressed Fibres Holding Dirt:
- Carpet fibres can stay slightly damp and are more likely to mat down and hold onto dirty particles from shoes, making stains in walkways look darker or more pronounced.
Mechanical Rooms
- Boilers, water heaters, humidifiers, cooling towers, or HVAC systems can produce steam, condensation, or leaks.
Poor Ventilation:
- Often small, enclosed spaces with limited airflow.
